The Sabbaths of Hope Initiative “an initiative being coordinated by the Pathways to Promise. Sabbaths of Hope is a mental health literacy initiative that enables clergy and other faith leaders to recognize types and symptoms of depression, provide referral and linkage to treatment options, and offer more effective support to congregants suffering from depression.

Get involved and join the movement on

Friday, May 19 – Sunday, May 21, 2017

 We encourage faith communities to consider doing the following:

  • Wear lime green or a green ribbon in solidarity to raise awareness about mental illness and post pictures on social media feed.
  • Integrate mental health awareness in sermon, sacred text readings and other liturgy components.
  • Setup a resource table with information on depression and other mental health topics.
  • Don’t forget to share your pictures on Facebook and include us in your post  https://www.facebook.com/pathway2promise/

Included below or numerous resources in particular you will find a Mental Health Guide for Faith Leaders that provides a mental health overview, list of signs and symptoms of mental illnesses, medication information, intervention and referral guidelines, and referral options; Suicide prevention information and crisis hotline numbers. The Mental Health Guide for Faith Leaders also includes content on how faith leaders can support people with mental illness.  You will also find sermons examples, sample texts, prayers, litanies, and bulletin inserts, prayer cards and suggested scripture readings are also included.
